The Alamitos Bay Yacht Club multihull fleet is a diverse group made up of individuals who share a common interest in catamaran sailing recreationally and for racing. The boats in our fleet include a number of different manufacturer makes, models, and sizes of catamarans including F18, Nacra foiling 20, A Class, and to the Hobie 16. Catamaran sailors enjoy the excitement, thrill, and performance of these boats on the water while racing, cruising, or day sailing.
The ABYC multihull fleet is an active fleet that also travels to regional and national regattas. Our fleet includes world champions and Olympic medal winners along with weekend warriors and newcomers alike. Long Beach’s ideal climate offers year round sailing and the regatta schedule is full from Midwinters in February to the Thanksgiving Turkey Regatta. Plus with active fleets in San Diego and San Francisco we get a lot of out of town California boats that travel to Long Beach for the good breeze and flat waters we have locally.
Our current United States Olympic team for the foiling Nacra 17 trains out of our club and skippered by Riley Gibbs who grew up junior sailing out of ABYC. https://www.gibbsweisracing.com/
As sailboats evolve catamarans and foiling boats are on the future of sailing. If you're interested in going fast on the water on a truly active boat give a multihull a try. Contact Nick Kofski for opportunities to crew or just reach out to any of us you see rigging up in the yard, another boat in the fleet is always a great thing.
Even as were still on lockdown the folks down at Mission Bay YC and San Diego YC haven't yet pulled the plug on the 2020 F18 Americas and US Multihull Championships slated for late September.
